Thanks to many folks who shared about their trip to Costa Rica last summer: Caleb Leininger, Calah Mortensen, Celia Turner, Lydia King, Suzy Truong. You told some great stories. I loved the pictures.

Many new members were inducted, recited the oath, and received their certificate and pin. CONGRATULATIONS!

Calah closed with a beautiful rendition of an Argentinian folk song.

I have personally worked with this organization for many years, and truly believe in the positive impact of one on one mentoring. Their Bowl For Kid’s sake is an opportunity for the local chapter to raise a large percentage of their funding for the year. You would get a team together, collect sponsorship money, and go and bowl a FREE game on March 19. Who’s in? Who wants to bowl? 1 point for WLHS or 1 hour of community service. Get info here.
See that great picture on the far left? That’s Anna, a BHS GRAD!!! Makes my heart happy.
We’ll be ready to celebrate the success of the International Dinner. We are also fortunate to welcome Linda Lefel, who worked in Haiti and brings updates from her service project and the community in which she worked. She will also bring thread bracelets made by children. Student’s option to purchase. We’ll see you in club on the 17th!
The BHS International Dinner was a great success for 2010! Club members publicized the event, sold tickets, found international recipes, prepared food, served the meal in a transformed BHS commons to raise money to fight hunger. This year WLHS raised $1550.00, and the money was donated to Heifer International. Heifer International makes “living donations” of live animals to communities in need. The organization is successful, because along with the donation the community is supported by those who work with the recipients so that they will understand “best practices.” The gift grows as the first born from that animal will be donated to another family in the community. Each recipient is committed to passing along the first born.
We had a great time decorating the large commons, serving drinks and a buffet meal to the community, and working overtime in the kitchen. The dinner music provided by talented students added great atmosphere.
If you were there, feel free to post and share your experience!!
