The Rockingham County Schools Spelling Bee was held Monday, Feb. 6, at Cub Run Elementary. Twenty-seven students competed from the 19 schools.
Ten top spellers will now advance to the Regional Spelling Bee.

As the first place finisher, Madeline Hall was the recipient of a $100 check from the local McDonald Restaurants, a new sponsor for the County Bee. Other sponsors offered gift certificates and coupons in the goodie bag given to all spellers.
Sponsors included RCPS, County Council of PTAs, Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc., Rockingham District Ruritans, Daily News-Record and WVPT.
These students will now prepare for the Regional Bee and they have materials and information about the bee. It will be held on Saturday, March 3 at WVPT studios. The program will air at 11 a.m. on a local WVPT channel.
