Here’s whats up for this week…

Mrs.Carr’s Math Class – In the next few weeks, we will be looking specifically into graphing including bar graphs, double bar graphs, line graphs, circle graphs, and ordered pairs. Students will be able to read, interprete, and create graphs. Each day students are responsible for solving their Problem of the Day (POD – one SOL release test question) as well as any unfinished classwork or assignments. Please remember to check your child’s Powerschool account and encourage them to correct any assignment!

Mrs. Carr’s Reading –We will continue to read a Fictional Tradebook – Teacher’s Pet! Last week we took a slight diversion to complete a synonymn, antonymn, and homonymn book with digital cameras. It was so much fun! Please ask your child about it! Students will be responsible for reading 30 minutes of AR. Students who make their weekly goal are rewarded with a Homework pass!!  Students also should complete their daily Passage of the Day (POD – four questions relating to an SOL -like passage). The POD counts for a weekly homework assignment. Please remember to check your child’s Powerschool account and encourage them to correct any assignment!

Mrs. Carr’s Spelling – Students will use their word study menu to complete weekly spelling assignments. On Mondays, students may select one appetizer. On Tuesday, students will complete one soup and salad. On Wednesday, students will complete one entree and on Thursday, students will complete one dessert. The menu is great because students have three options daily. All word study notebooks will be collected and students will be assessed on Friday! Students have the opportunity to correct incomplete word study assignments – Please remember to check your child’s Powerschool account!

Mrs. Carr’s Writing – Students have been working on developing understanding of parts of speech including: nouns, verbs, pronouns, and subject verb agreement. By the end of this week , students will begin their Dream Pet paper.

Social Studies (History) – No Social Studies until next Marking Period. Please continue to correct any work or tests that come home! Check your child’s powerschool account!

Science (Mrs. Carr’s Class) – I just LOVE Science. Students will be working on their discovery of plants (SOL 4.4)! We’ve used a digital microscope to look closely at the plant parts. We will also be dissecting a flower, learning about important plant processes like Dormancy, Pollination, and Photosynthesis.  Students will also be reviewing livings systems unit including: behavioral and structural adaptations, food webs, life cycle, habitats, and communities. Check out this marking periods extra credit assignment – Student Life Cycle! Please remember to check your child’s Powerschool account and encourage them to correct any assignment!
