Math Homework through the Month of April
In an effort to prepare students for the math SOL, and provide the ability to plan around outside activities such as games, practices, other classes, etc. – I am providing students with a “homework plan.” They are welcome to “work ahead” but need to be sure to do their best and be ready to go over each assignment on the day it is due. Please be sure students bring this book to school EVERY DAY.
Students will have a copy of this on the inside cover of their book, but it may be helpful to print off a copy for the fridge! Thanks for your help with this as we begin reviewing and reminding ourselves of everything we have learned this year!

MATH TEST
Just in case anyone checks this weekend, I wanted to post something about the math test. I made sure all measurement grades were recorded before I left on Friday, so please review those grades and/or papers with your child. He or she should also have a practice test to look over. The main topics are using a ruler, area, perimeter, circumference, and elapsed time. Have fun!

Math Test and Science Quiz
Our Chapter 5 Math test will be on Probability, Graphing, and Mean, Median, Mode, and Range! Students will have a practice test to help understand the types of problems they will be seeing, and we will be reviewing in class. This should be a good one.
Don’t forget to study metric measurement papers for Tuesday’s science quiz!

Language Arts December 5 through December 16
During this week and next, we will be having spelling bees in class to choose the spelling bee participants. Five students from each Language Arts Block will be chosen by December 9. The John Wayland Spelling be will be held at 1:30 on Friday, January 13 in the main gym.
We will be reviewing nouns, pronouns and adjectives in class with the language textbook and study packets. This will be done entirely in class and should involve no homework.
There will not be a major writing project before the holiday.
Please enjoy a restful time with your families over the winter break.

Tests Coming Up
Math: Practice tests are coming home today, and we will be practicing throughout the week. The chapter 3/4 test will take place on Thursday. It will be on double digit division, divisibility rules, order of operations, and prime/composite numbers. As you can see, there are plenty of things to study for this test. Please take the time to go over this practice test with your child, and address any issues that he/she may have. We will score it on Tuesday, just to have an idea of who needs help on certain things, then we will return it on Wednesday so that it can be studied at home.
Science: The quiz Tuesday is about tides, waves, and currents. Students need to know what causes them, how the water moves, and what effects they have on the environment. There is a review that was completed in class today that students can study. On next Tuesday (November 22) we will have the unit test on Oceans. It will include information on which we have already been quizzed (geographical features, ocean movement) and ocean life. The old quizzes are a good thing to study, along with notes and study guides.
Social Studies: The quiz Friday will consist of labeling the 13 colonies, and knowing the categories in which they fall (Mid-Atlantic, New England, etc.)
